Benefits of Natural Light

mmanhoff • Aug 20, 2012

Studies have shown that both a clean house and natural light exposure have similar impacts on people's well-being. Having a clean, organized house promotes calm and reduces depression. Coming home from a hard day into a clean house helps a person relax.

Likewise, natural light has been shown to lead to feeling calmer, suffering less depression, and even faster recovery from injury or illness, in addition to reducing your energy bills by often more than half. Many housekeeping services can provide both a clean house and clean windows to maximize these effects.

If you would like to make natural light a staple in your home, here are a few tips:

  • Pay attention to where your windows are in your home, and try to minimize blocking them. If you put things in front of or around your windows, make sure they're low or small. This way, light will get in the full length of your room, rather than being stopped by a bulky piece of furniture.
  • Use curtains to control the amount of light in your home. Having a variety of curtains gives you the most control. Sheer curtains can be used to diffuse bright sunlight, while heavier curtains can reduce or block all of the light for very hot days or on the side of your house that gets the heaviest sun exposure during the heat of the day.
  • When possible, open the windows completely. Fresh air and natural light together are a great way to make you feel better and give your home a fresh feeling that will last all day!

If time has you crunched but you want the relaxing benefits of a clean home and natural light, consider hiring a maid service to help you get started.
