How to Make Your House Smell Like Fall

Written by

As the seasons change, the air turns cooler, and your thoughts turn to cool weather and upcoming holidays, it's  natural to want to bring some of that beautiful autumn freshness indoors. Like anything else, a good house cleaning is the first step to making your home smell fresh.

Once your house is clean, here are some things you can do to make your house smell like fall:

Open the windows. On a nice fall day, the best thing you can do is open your windows for a little while. The sun on the falling leaves and the cool autumn air are a great natural air freshener for your home.

Simmering. If you aren't a baker, you can still get the warm, inviting smell of fall foods by creating a simmer. All you need is a pot of boiling water and some of your favorite autumn seasonings. To try: sliced apples and cinnamon.

As an additional bonus, add some sugar to this pot and you'll have some great apples for dessert later.

Baking. If you don't mind baking, choose an afternoon to do something simple like baking cookies, cupcakes, or muffins, or roast pumpkin or squash in the oven. The familiar smells go a long way in making your home smell like fall.

Candles or air fresheners. There are many candles and air fresheners on the market designed specifically to make your home smell like vanilla, pumpkin, or cinnamon. Find the one you like the most and light it in the kitchen or living room to spread the smell throughout the house.

Don't use these techniques to mask odors; instead, find maid services to get your home clean and fresh, and then use these tips to take it that extra step!
