Avoid Using Harsh Detergents:

There are hundreds of cleaning agents that you can use to keep your clothes clean. Unfortunately, some of them are formulated with ingredients that can affect the internal components of the washers by corroding them. One of the best ways of avoiding this is by using milder laundry detergents that are recommended by the manufacturer.

Keep Vents Clear:

For dryers to work well, and to avoid fire hazards, you must maintain the vents properly. If you don’t regularly clean out the lint trap, it can cause the dryer to not dry clothing as well, in turn taking longer to dry clothing loads. Lint build-up can also lead to a fire accident.

Clean Washer Interior:

In order to make sure your washer continues to clean your clothing, you need to periodically clean the inside. This is so you can remove soap scum build-up, and other residues that can coat the interior of the washer over time. There are ready-to-use washer cleaners available that you can purchase to clean your washer. Or, you can use a simply fill the washer with water, add in 1-2 cups of bleach, and run a regular cycle to clean the inside. However, if the interior of your washer is stainless steel DO NOT use bleach, as it can damage it.

Avoid Overfilling:

Both your washer and dryer function better when they are properly loaded. Make sure that you do not keep stuffing in clothes just because they will fit. This can easily lead to overfilling, and will cause your clothing to possibly not get cleaned properly in the washer, and take longer to dry in the dryer.
